Review
TranslateIt! is a translation program for Windows and Mac OS X. The application currently supports four languages: English, Spanish, German and Russian. Unlike other applications, TranslateIt!'s goal is to allow you to translate text directly from its source. Most other translation applications require that you open a file on a separate window or copy text from the source into the program. TranslateIt! can use your mouse to do just that. Whenever you need something translated, you can simply select the text that you want translated and the application will create a mouseover effect that will display the information about the text that you selected. The application is even supposed to auto-detect the language you are translating from. Now, in theory this all sounds marvelous. However, when I first installed the application it took me a good five minutes to get it to even translate basic words. The dictionary mode is great and there are literally thousands of words and there are even technical dictionaries available for download. The text translation feature (translation of full lexical segments, or sentences) uses Google translations, so don't expect great quality. Trying to look for the meaning of a word takes a couple of seconds until the application can figure out which word you are trying to point at. If TranslateIt! were snappier, it would make for a great a tool. |
- Huge dictionaries, even technical ones.

- Slow.
- Text translation is not great.
